Language Arts 06

"The best way to get something done is to begin." -Author Unknown

Course Description
Read short stories and novels, listen to music, read newspapers, and even interview your family. You will also learn how to write interesting stories of your own. It’s Time for Exploration.  That’s what you’ll do as you explore some exciting stories, folktales and heroic adventures from the past and present.  Your teacher will act as your guide, while you choose the stories you like best.

Materials & Books
You will need to obtain a copy of one of the books (your selected novel) listed below:
Rules by Cynthia Lord
Crossing Jordan  by Adrian Fogelin
Jaguar by Roland Smith
Chicken Boy by Frances O'Roark Dowell
Number the Stars by Lois Lowry

Heat by Mike Lupica (this is an advanced novel, for those who are interested in a challenge)
You need to obtain a copy of these books by going to the library, your school library, or local bookstore. You may also ask your friends or your parents: they just may have a copy you may borrow. You may also go online and order books from Amazon.com or Barnes and Noble.com if you are unable to locate the title conveniently in your area.  Some books may be completely or partially available online for free: try  Project Gutenberg or GoogleBooks.
Our Schedule / Staying on Pace
The due dates for your class assignments are here.  Please be sure to stay on-task with your work.  You can do so by working through the assignments that are "Due Soon" on your Home Page.  You are expected to complete all of your work in order, and on time.  You're welcome to work ahead, but try not to fall behind.  It's always more difficult to catch up than it is to stay on track.  Contact me if you have any questions!
