"The best way to get something done is to begin." -Author Unknown
Course Description
Maybe change would not be hard if we knew where it was all going. This course is not about telling fortunes, but it is about seeing how people and ideas have changed. It is also about discovering which ideas have lasting value for you. Acquire the tools to understand and express yourself through writing. By the end of the course, you will have completed a portfolio of your own original writings.
Materials & Books
You will need to obtain a copy of one of the books (your selected novel) listed below:
The Giver by Lois Lowry
The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton
The Watsons Go to Birmingham - 1963 by Christopher Paul Curtis
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee (this is an advanced novel, for those who are interested in a challenge)
You need to obtain a copy of these books by going to the library, your school library, or local bookstore. You may also ask your friends or your parents: they just may have a copy you may borrow. You may also go online and order books from Amazon.com or Barnes and Noble.com if you are unable to locate the title conveniently in your area. Some books may be completely or partially available online for free: try Project Gutenberg or GoogleBooks.
Our Schedule / Staying on Pace
The due dates for your class assignments are here. Please be sure to stay on-task with your work. You can do so by working through the assignments that are "Due Soon" on your Home Page. You are expected to complete all of your work in order, and on time. You're welcome to work ahead, but try not to fall behind. It's always more difficult to catch up than it is to stay on track. Contact me if you have any questions!
